1000 Round Case Federal Lake City XM855 5.56 NATO 62gr Green-Tipped Penetrator - Made by Lake City Ammunition Plant in USA! XM855CSF
1,000 round case of newly manufactured Federal XM855 62 grain FMJ-BT cartridges in caliber 5.56 NATO. Federal #XM855CSF. Bulk packaged 1,000 loose rounds in box at Lake City Arsenal. These are green-tipped bullets with steel cores and copper jackets, coming off the same production line used by the US Military.
Many rifles chambered in 5.56 NATO are not realizing their full
potential when shooting 223 Rem ammo. To get all the
performance 5.56 NATO can deliver, you need a
5.56 NATO load. 5.56 NATO chambered rifles were designed to take advantage of the
higher pressure of the 5.56 NATO cartridge — higher pressure translates
to increased velocity, higher energy and harder-hitting performance.
Firing 5.56 NATO ammunition in 223 Remington chambers will produce a
dramatic rise in pressure which increases stress on the weapon, risking
wear, permanent damage and/or injury.
This is military style ammunition for your military style AR-15. This ammunition is for use only for chambers marked 5.56 NATO, as are most AR-15 carbines and rifles. Do not use it in sporting rifle chambers marked .223. M855 (M16A2) cartridge is best used with a rifling twist rate of 1:7 or 1:9. When the M855 is fired in a rifle with a slower rate of twist the longer 62-grain bullet can yaw up to 70 degrees in free trajectory through the air, substantially degrading accuracy.
"In all likelihood there is only one assembly line
producing this ammunition for Federal Cartridge. When the assembly line
is finished making its allotment of ammo for the government’s order each
week, it runs for awhile longer making some extra for public sale."
The Shooter's Log
Jason Nash, Group Lead, Communications - ATK Ammunition and Related Products Group: "We've had several questions regarding the XM designation and following is our official statement regarding what the product is. XM193 ammunition is 5.56mm contract overrun material. It may not meet all of the mil-spec requirements, however, it does meet all requirements of commercial ammunition for pressure, form, fit and function. Like any other mass-produced product, there are often imperfections in either appearance or non-functional mechanics. As we all know, the military is very stringent in their requirements and for good reason. This being the case, it doesn't take much to fall outside of those parameters." The Gun Zone: "What does ATK's "XM" prefix and "PD" suffix actually mean"

The difference between 'government sales material' and 'commercial
sales material' has to do with performance testing attributes of the
cartridges from that lot of ammunition. Ammunition certified for being
'government sales material' is rigorously tested to ensure it meets a
mess of government and/or NATO performance specs and is proven to be of
the grade of quality and consistency required for military combat use.
This is different than the Lake city ammo we are sold in the commercial
market which called 'commercial sales material' and is not subjected to
the rigorous performance testing and requirements that the government
ammo is. Basically its the same sort of stuff, but the Lake City ammo
sold in the commercial market here in the USA has not been test proven
to be of mil-spec. This is not saying Lake city is inferior, this is
saying that it has not been proven to be equal to or better than
mil-spec through a rigorous performance testing process, or screened
cosmetically either. This is why you get some ugly ammo sometimes with
Lake City, or ammo that does perform as consistently with certain lots.
Still great ammo for all intents in my opinion, just not top of the
like. I do not carry the IMI stuff so I cannot say for sure if it is
manufactured, performance tested and certified to mil-spec. I think the
bill Clinton deal has to do with ammo that has been sold under contract
to the US government eventually being surplus-sold into the commercial
market. From time to time you will see older lots real mil-spec Lake
city sold as surplus here in the states, but that is stuff that was made
for foreign government export contract, then after it 'expired' or no
longer is need by that government it was sold to a commercial broker or
exporter who sold it back to the US market via one of the US
arms/ammunition importers" SGAmmo
