Description

500 rounds Federal Premium Law Enforcement Tactical P9HST4 - 9mm +P 147gr HST Jacketed Hollow Point in 50 round boxes

P9HST4 is perhaps Federal's closest alternative to the Federal Tactical P9HST2, which often has a waiting list of months and years. It is the duty round of many police departments. It has more velocity than P9HST2, but is still subsonic, and otherwise is very similar.

Federal LE HST 9mm handgun ammunition is designed to deliver the high performance today's law enforcement officers demand. Each HST bullet is individually engineered to provide shot-to-shot uniformity and ensure optimum performance when fired through a variety of barriers. The result is a cartridge that provides officers the ultimate defense in lethal force confrontations.

"Whatever you choose, make sure you fire at least 500 and preferably 1000 failure free shots through your pistol prior to carrying it. If your pistol cannot fire at least 1000 consecutive shots without a malfunction, something is wrong and it is not suitable for duty/self-defense use." Dr. Gary Roberts in pistol-forum.com

"Recoil between the 124gn & 124gn +P was noticeable. You would be lucky to notice the difference between the 147gn and 147gn +P recoil." Sigtalk.com

"I've chronographed multiple lots of both P9HST2 and P9HST4 from a Glock 19 with a 4" barrel. On average, the P9HST4 runs approximately 20 fps faster than the P9HST2 when fired from the Glock 19. BFD." Posted by Molon on M1Carbine.net Thread: P9HST2 vs P9HST4

The 147 gr +Ps only leave the barrel ~50 fps faster than the standard pressure 147s:

The Fed HST line is among the best duty loads currently available for service caliber pistols. HST's tend to work best using heavier bullets ( 147 gr, 180 gr, 230 gr) at moderate velocities, with standard pressures. Velocity means nothing with the new generation ammo. It relies on design to expand not velocity. Dr. Gary Roberts on pistol-forum.com

"Bullet designs like the Silver Tip, Hydra-Shok, and Black Talon were state of the art 15 or 20 years ago. These older bullets tend to plug up and act like FMJ projectiles when shot through heavy clothing; they also often have significant degradation in terminal performance after first passing through intermediate barriers. Modern ammunition which has been designed for robust expansion against clothing and intermediate barriers is significantly superior to the older designs. The bullets in the Federal Classic and Hydrashok line are outperformed by other ATK products such as the Federal Tactical and HST, as well as the Speer Gold Dot; likewise Winchester Ranger Talons are far superior to the old Black Talons or civilian SXT's." there has been a big push back to 9mm for LE, thanks mostly to the successful performance of P9HST2 and P9HST4, this has caused a lot of problems for supply on LE 9mm

SGAmmo [Industry Partner]
From what i understand LE departments are getting away from 40 cal and going back to 9mm primarily because P9HST2 and 4 offer similar effective performance while increasing capacity of the firearm. I will not venture into technical details, but both of these loads offer exceptionally reliable expansion and penetration with sufficient energy to get the job done. Are they better than P9HST3 in 124+P? I am not sure, that is a proven performer as well as is golddot # 53617
