500 Rounds Speer LE 53617 - 9mm 124 Grain +P Gold Dot Hollow Point in 50 round boxes
Speer's Gold Dot Hollow Point is one of the best self-defense rounds
available today. A top choice of law enforcement agencies across the
country, including the NYPD, the Gold Dot uses a patented process that
forms the hollow point cavity in two stages. The core is pre-fluted to
define the "fault" lines of expansion, controlling final diameter and
retained weight. The second process finishes the cavity and controls the
rate of expansion. Select, clean burning propellants deliver optimum
velocity while ensuring consistent chamber pressures. Non-corrosive CCI
primers are used for highly sensitive and reliable performance, as well
as nickel plated brass cases for smooth feeding and durability. These
technical features allow Speer's engineers to fine tune each specific
caliber and bullet weight for maximum field performance.

"Experience has taught police that what actually happens on the street is
more important than what happens in the artificial environment of the
laboratory. The 9mm round now acknowledged to work the best is a
124-grain to 127-grain high tech hollow point at a velocity of 1250 feet
per second. NYPD, with some 30,000 officers carrying this type of ammo,
the Speer Gold Dot +P 124-grain, is happy with the performance of its
9mm service pistols."
...my choice in the Speer line for 9mm remains the VERY street-proven 124 grain +P Gold Dot. Mas Ayoob
"The NYPD uses a 124-grain, hollow-point bullet that is designed to prevent over-penetration and ricochets." New York City Police Department Annual Firearms Discharge Report 2013
"The 9mm Gold Dot is yet another top shelf performer. In this
ever-popular round, testing was conducted with the 124-grain +P load.
This same load is utilized by the New York City Police Department and
the New Jersey State Police. From a GLOCK 19, average muzzle velocity
was 1181 fps with a penetration depth of 15.1 inches. Expansion of
recovered bullets was picture perfect, averaging out to 0.63 of an inch."
"Gold Dot? The 124-gr. +P has delivered awesome performance in the 9mms of NYPD’s
nearly 35,000 officers. Las Vegas Metro uses Gold Dot across the board
in three approved calibers, and their firearms instructors have told me
the 124-gr. +P 9mm is every bit as effective as the 180-gr. .40 and the
230-gr. .45 ACP." (Massad Ayoob,
would also have no issues running Speer Gold Dot;
the 124 gr +P is a
solid proven performer proven over many OIS incidents
, the 147 gr is
also a good load."
"Purchase a consistent, robust performing duty/self-defense load in
sufficient quantities (at least 1000 rounds) then STOP worrying about
the nuances of handgun ammunition terminal performance."

Bullet designs like the Silver Tip, Hydra-Shok, and Black Talon were
state of the art 15 or 20 years ago. These older bullets tend to plug up
and act like FMJ projectiles when shot through heavy clothing; they
also often have significant degradation in terminal performance after
first passing through intermediate barriers. Modern ammunition which has
been designed for robust expansion against clothing and intermediate
barriers is significantly superior to the older designs. The bullets in
the Federal Classic and Hydrashok line are outperformed by other ATK
products such as the Federal Tactical and HST, as well as the Speer Gold
Dot; likewise Winchester Ranger Talons are far superior to the old
Black Talons or civilian SXT's.
